Apple Mint

Mentha x villosa

Apple mint is frequently known as Cuban mint or mojito mint – a pedigree which rings bells with us – favoured in the classic cocktail due to it’s mild and balanced flavour.

Mint is a herb that has been highly valued since the time of ancient Greece and beyond. Minthe was a naiad (water nymph) who attempted to seduce Hades but was caught in the act by Persephone and turned into a sweet smelling herb.

Minthe (mentha) was a vital ingredient in an esoteric pyschoactive (psychadelic) drink used in ritual ceremonies by those of the ancient cults of Persephone and Demeter, which was believed to prepare the initiates for reward in the afterlife. It’s believed that the distant origin of these rituals lies in agrarian cults dating back to 1600 BC.
