Join foraging tutor Mark Williams and mixologist Danny Whelan on a journey of wild alcoholic discovery in conjunction with The Botanist Gin, Glasgow Gin Club and The Kelvingrove Cafe.

Our afternoon starts at the gates of Glasgow Botanic Gardens from which we will explore the plants, fruits and fungi that can make remarkable drinks. Over a 2 hour amble over 1.5 km, you’ll learn how to identify, harvest and prepare plants that can take your drinks cabinet to wild new places…

We will discuss drinks uses of plants and how exciting wild, feral and home-grown flavours can be captured in ferments, aromatised wines, shrubs, bitters, juices, syrups, wines and beers – and sample a few along the way. We will take a particularly close look at the botanical make-up of The Botanist Gin and make some on-the-fly cocktails and rapid infusions on the banks of the river Kelvin.

After the walk we will reconvene in the comfort of The Kelvingrove Cafe where Danny will show you how to mix spectacular cocktails using the ingredients we have encountered. You can enjoy this as a hands-on workshop, or just relax and enjoy the refreshment…

Mark Williams is Scotland’s only full-time foraging tutor. As well as public guided walks, he works regularly with the top chefs, barmen and drinks producers in the UK, providing wild inspiration from Scotland’s natural larder. His favourite thing is to sit on the verandah of his house in Galloway, SW Scotland, and play with gin and aromatic wild plants.
