Body

Velvety on the palate, the higher strength brings an intense, luxurious mouthfeel. A harmonious balance of juniper and spices warm the senses while complementing the delicate aromatics of the 22 hand-foraged Islay botanicals.

Nose

Opens on sweet juniper and spices, with citrus freshness. The signature herbal influence of the 22 rises to the fore with delicate mints, sweet gale and wild thyme. Cinnamon, coriander and juniper provide a platform for the delicate, aromatic Islay botanicals to reveal their astonishing depth and clarity.

Taste

Botanical flavours glide across the palate. Warming spices and fragrant juniper give way to sweet citrus. Each sip reveals new botanical combinations, allowing the wonderful depth of flavor and complexity to be uncovered. The delicate herbal notes of the 22 complement the base of the earthy, spicy juniper-led tones. The distinctive balance of The Botanist Distiller's Strength is further emphasised by the higher strength and velvety texture.

Finish

A long and powerful finish. As the weight of flavour slowly fades, gentle floral notes begin to surface; soft juniper, citrus, water, mint, wood sage and clover. The wild Islay botanicals form a procession of flavours that leave you in mind of our island home as they fade to a memory

"The way these spirits behave and the expressions they create are very different."

"With whisky, there are limits to how much we can capture these local flavours. But with gin, the possibilities are endless,” Hannett said. “We can use botanicals that grow locally and distill them to create something that truly speaks to the place we’re from. To me, Islay is the center of the universe - it’s an amazing place. And to be able to distill its essence into a glass is fantastic.”

FAQs

Find the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions and other information and support from The Botanist. For anything else, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Is The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin a good gin?

Yes, The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin is widely acclaimed as being an excellent gin. It has picked up various accolades, including a Master Medal at the Gin Masters and a Gold Medal at the USA Spirit Ratings.

What benefits does a higher strength gin have?

At 50% ABV or 100 proof, flavorful oils from distillation are enhanced and the liquid becomes even more viscous which helps carry the flavors of the spirit in cocktails. This makes Distiller’s Strength a great choice of gin if you’re looking to craft robust, spirit-forward cocktails. It’s also often the go-to expression for bartenders working with The Botanist, especially for cocktails like the Negroni.

Does Distiller’s Strength contain the same botanicals?

Yes, the same 22 botanicals that we use in our Islay Dry Gin are also used in Distiller’s Strength. However, they are used in different proportions.

What is the best way to enjoy Distiller’s Strength?

It really shines in gin-forward cocktails, such as the Negroni or the Martini, if you want a more intense taste experience. It also works excellently in a classic Gin & Tonic for a longer serve with a more herbaceous, juniper-forward profile.

Is The Botanist  Distiller’s Strength Gin gluten-free?

Yes, The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin is gluten-free. The distillation process transforms the liquid into vapour and leaves the heavy gluten proteins behind.

What is the alcohol percentage in The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin is 50% ABV / 100 proof.

What botanicals are used in The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

The same 22 wild Islay botanicals are used in The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin but in different quantities to the classic expression, creating a different flavour profile with a richer viscosity and velvety texture.

What does The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin pair well with?

The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin is a great choice when you want to enjoy a classic gin serve, such as a gin & tonic or a martini, but with a more pronounced flavour. For something a little different, why not try it in a Clover Club for a more fruity cocktail? The full recipe can be found here.

What tonic goes best with The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

A full-bodied, premium Indian tonic water is the best choice for The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin as its flavour profile will stand up well against the higher strength spirit. You should aim for a ratio of 1:3 (1 part gin, 3 parts tonic) for the best taste experience.

How many calories are there in The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

There are 69 calories in a single serving (25ml) of The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin.

What garnish should I use with The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

If you’re serving a gin & tonic made with The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin, we recommend garnishing with a twist of lemon peel.

Where can I buy The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

The Botanist Distiller’s Strength is mainly available in premium cocktail bars across the US and UK. It can also be purchased from our distillery website (www.bruichladdich.com) and in certain markets, it listed with certain online retailers such as Amazon in the UK and and Reserve Bar in the US.

What cocktails can I make with The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

What is the flavour profile of The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin?

Is The Botanist Distiller’s Strength Gin a good gift?
